The Dancer Album Project
A storytelling photography experience created for dancers who want to document their artistry, discipline, movement, and growth in a meaningful way.
After years of photographing stories through families, motherhood, connection, and movement, I’m creating something deeply personal for dancers: a full dancer album experience designed to capture more than just beautiful poses.
This project will follow selected dancers through multiple parts of their dance world — in class, during rehearsal, in the studio, and on location — to create a visual story of who they are as artists in this season.
The goal is to create images that feel honest, powerful, graceful, and deeply personal. Not just what you can do, but what it has taken to become the dancer you are.
What This Experience Includes
Selected dancers will receive a full storytelling photography experience, which may include:
- A planning conversation with Heather
- Photography during a dance class
- Photography during rehearsal
- A studio dance portrait session
- An outdoor or on-location creative dance session
- Professional image selection and editing
- A curated collection of printed images
- An archival print box with selected artwork from the project
- The option to purchase a custom-designed album from the final image collection
There is no session fee for selected dancers participating in this project.
Because this is a creative album project, selected dancers must be available and committed to participating in multiple sessions over the course of the project.
Who This Is For
This project is for dancers who are committed to their craft and comfortable being photographed in both polished and behind-the-scenes moments.
You do not need to be perfect. You do not need to have it all figured out.
But you do need to be willing to show up fully.
I’m looking for dancers who are expressive, dedicated, open to direction, and excited about creating something meaningful — something that documents not only their technique, but their heart, work ethic, and story.
This may be a beautiful fit for dancers who are:
- Preparing for auditions or intensives
- Entering a senior year or milestone season
- Growing in their artistry
- Building confidence in front of the camera
- Wanting to document this chapter of their dance journey
- Interested in a future full dancer album experience
What I’ll Be Looking For
Because this project involves dance-specific posing and movement, the application includes photo submissions.
Please be prepared to upload:
- A clear headshot
- A full-body dance position photo
For the dance position photo, an arabesque en pointe is preferred if that is appropriate for your level. I’m looking to see alignment, feet, extension, and whether knees are fully stretched, especially en pointe.
This does not need to be a professional photo. A clear phone image is completely fine. Please make sure the dancer’s full body is visible from head to toe.
For dancers who are not en pointe, please submit a full-body dance position that best represents your current technique and training.
Important Commitment Details
This is a multi-session project.
Selected dancers may be photographed:
- During class
- During rehearsal
- In studio
- On location
- In both posed and candid storytelling moments
Because of the time and planning involved, please only apply if you are excited and able to participate fully.
Parent/guardian permission is required for dancers under 18.
What Selected Dancers Receive
Selected dancers will receive:
- A full creative dance photography experience with no session fee
- Participation in multiple storytelling sessions
- A curated archival print box with selected images from the project
- The option to order a custom-designed album
- The opportunity to be featured in Heather Cahoon Photography’s dancer album portfolio, website, social media, and promotional materials
Please note: digital files are not the focus of this experience. This project is being created with printed artwork and album storytelling in mind.

Interested in the Full Album Experience?
Even if you are not selected for this specific project, you’ll have the option to indicate whether you’d be interested in booking your own dancer album experience in the future.
This is a beautiful option for dancers who want a more personal, fully customized album experience created around their own story, schedule, studio, and artistic goals.
