There are weddings you photograph, and then there are weddings you feel. Megan and Dillon's early spring micro-wedding at Hunting Island State Park was firmly, beautifully, the second kind.

I first met this family a few years ago during a portrait session — and I remembered immediately why I fell in love with this work. They are the kind of people who look at each other like the rest of the room has gone quiet. When Megan reached out about their wedding, I cleared my calendar without hesitation.

"You could feel it the moment everyone arrived — this wasn't just a wedding. It was a family wrapping itself around two people and saying: we are so glad you found each other."


Hunting Island: a ceremony setting unlike anything else in South Carolina

Hunting Island State Park is one of those rare places that does the work for you. The light filters through maritime forest canopy, the beach stretches wide and unhurried, and the Atlantic sits just beyond — vast and quietly bearing witness. For an intimate Lowcountry beach wedding, there is nowhere more elemental.

Early spring in the South Carolina Lowcountry means soft golden light, temperatures that feel like a gift, and a stillness in the air that doesn't arrive until the summer crowds are still weeks away. It was the kind of day that makes you believe the weather itself was rooting for them.


An intimate reception at the Dataw Island Club House

After the ceremony, the celebration moved to the Dataw Island Club House — a graceful, understated setting perfectly suited to a microwedding that was never about spectacle. It was about presence. About gathering the people who matter most into a room and letting the love in it speak for itself.

Small weddings like this one have a quality that large receptions rarely do: every moment is witnessed. Every laugh is heard. Every glance across the room lands. As a Beaufort wedding photographer, I find myself drawn again and again to these intimate celebrations — because the photographs they produce are honest in a way that can't be manufactured.
