The vacation is booked!
Booking a photographer for your Fripp Island vacation may be one of the last things on your list, or maybe it isn't on your list until after you arrive and realize that it this vacation and memories with your family is a moment you don't want to be missed. Then, the search is on! If you anticipate vacationing on Fripp, I highly recommend you start considering photographers and planning in advance, even if you ultimately decide not to book a photographer. It helps to have some idea of what to expect, what dates may be available, what rescheduling due to inclement weather may look like, and most importantly... what clothes should you bring? I'm here to help navigate that a bit! So, keep reading and start preppin'. :)

Which Photographer Do I Book?
Let's jump right in. This is going to be a personal decision that you must make based on your desired outcome for the session. I suggest looking through several photographers and finding the one that fits you best! Photography is a luxury expense, which means it can be quite expensive! But even us photographers are in the same boat when we book other photographers! Photography is a combination of art and business. You must find the art that speaks to you! I highly recommend looking through potential photographers' social media accounts, striking up a conversation with them, and even asking to see a full gallery (if you need extra convincing). This also gives you the opportunity to interact with the photographer and see if their personal style and how they treat you as a client, is in line with your values!

What Do We Wear?
This is a whole conversation, and will largely depend on the photographer you book! Different outfits can completely change the outcome of the images! Light & airy versus moody and dark, you need to go in prepared for the look that you want on your wall. I think it is generally more common to find that light & airy is going to be the look most envisioned for the beach. This means light and pastel-colored, coordinated (but never totally matching) outfits. Typically any kind of fabric with a flow to it is going to be fantastic for the beach because we can see the movement in the images (sorry... but this means jeans are out). When clients book with me I have a full client guide that breaks down what look to go for to achieve the style you see in most of my images. Don't be afraid to ask your photographer if they have that available for you, or at least some recommendations.

What's The Weather Like?
This my friends, really can be a doozy of a question. It's the beach in the Lowcountry! There are truly no guarantees that can be given at any time. One of the reasons I recommend booking a photographer as soon as you can is because you want to ensure that they are available at the beginning of your trip. Like your first full day there! Because, if there is inclement weather you should have more opportunities to reschedule the session and make it work. But what if you have inclement weather and you cannot make it up? This will require some getting creative on the part of you and the photographer. One thing I will say is do not go in with the expectation that your session will look exactly like all the others taken by the photographer. The weather and backdrop can absolutely change the results of your session and the look of the final images. It is important to have an open mind and heart in this way. Just because the photos may not be exactly what you hoped (pristine and light) it doesn't make them any less special or the moments captured any less important. Sometimes, it actually creates even more meaningful and special images with a totally unique artistic spin!

Other Thoughts?
One final thing I will say is, to consider looking into booking a photographer that has some prior experience with Fripp. It takes some learning, trying to understand the gate, the way parking works, and the best options for your photos depending on where you are staying. as well as having some idea of what to expect! The photographer should be knowledgeable enough about these things to make sure you have a decent experience and the least amount of stress possible. This is, after all, a vacation! I wish you the happiest time with your loved ones on the beautiful island called Fripp!
